Baking day in the Dotty kitchen creating some new ideas for savoury scones for afternoon tea. I took my basic cheese scone recipe and added chia seeds the result is delicious especially warmed with mango chutney!
225g Self raising Flour
pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon English mustard powder
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
1 tablespoon chia seeds
75g cheese grated
Preheat the oven to 200c and line a baking sheet with baking parchment. Mix flour, salt, mustard, paprika and chia seeds and rub in the butter. Add in the cheese reserving a little to sprinkle on the top. Whisk the egg and milk together in a bowl and add to the flour and cheese mixture reserving a little for glazing. Mix to a dough and then place on a floured surface and roll out to a 2.5cm thickness. Cut into rounds and place on the baking tray. Glaze with the remaining milk and egg mix and sprinkle with cheese. Bake for 12-15minutes until golden brown.
