As an artist I am inspired by animals and nature. I grew up in Derbyshire and much of my work reflects its landscape and wildlife. On walks in the Dales I would sketch and take photographs, constantly amazed by the changing colours and textures of the seasons. It is fairly recently that I discovered Needle Felting when looking into ways of using leftover fleece from spinning. I particularly enjoy the freedom of sculpting wool and the endless possibilities it presents.
Originally from Derbyshire, I gained a BA (Hons) in Textile Design from Leeds University, specialising in spinning, knitting and using natural dyes. I relocated to Kent in 2006 with my husband Phil and four children. I trained as an Art and design teacher at secondary level at Cambridge University and have taught Primary level as well. I was a Head teacher and Ofsted Inspector for a number of years before I decided to devote myself to creating art and textiles from my home studio. I am still passionate about teaching through my workshops whilst pursuing my own carer as an artist.
